Dreams Need Heroes

The James E. Swart Animal Center, located at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational & Conference Center, is a unique facility with historical significance to both the United States Army and American equine industry.  This facility connects the 4-H Center with its historical roots as a cavalry remount station for the United States Army up through World War I.  This article provides more background on the history of our horse facility.

Through the years, thousands of youth have had the opportunity to participate in equine programs at the James E. Swart Animal Center, as part of camp programs, horse shows, and other events.  As with any high-use, historical facility, it is a challenge to maintain the buildings and arenas.  It is important to preserve the history of this place, as well as continue to make it accessible and usable for the youth of Northern Virginia.

The 4-H Center's horse committee has created the "Dreams Need Heroes" campaign to fulfill the vision of a modern, magnificent facility that can serve an ever-growing population of youth interested in exploring horses and equine studies.  You can support that dream in several ways:

Beloved Companion Memorial

Faithful Mount Memorial
