Swim Lessons

4-H is about community, citizenship, leadership and hands-on educational experiences. This is called experiential learning. All programming at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational & Conference Center (NOVA 4-H Center) follows the “learn-by-doing” process and philosophies at the heart of 4-H, and our Swim Lessons are based on these same elements using the resources of the American Red Cross Water Safety Instruction program.  Our swimming programming is administered under a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certified by the American Red Cross (ARC) and as such will also respect the seven guiding principles of the ARC: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, universality and unity.

All classes are $75 per student (or per parent-child pair for My Grown-Up & Me)
All classes have a minimum enrollment of 3 students and a maximum enrollment of 12 students

INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHY
Swim classes at the NOVA 4-H Center pool are instructed by Lorilei Dreibelbis, who also acts as pool manager.  Miss Lorilei is Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certified by the Red Cross, as well as Lifeguard certified.  She has ten years of experience teaching in the classroom at all grade levels, K—12, in many different environments, including public, private, parochial and Montessori schools.  She currently acts as a challenge course facilitator and environmental education teacher here at the NOVA 4-H center as well.  As a mother of two, including a special needs child, she well understands the patient and supporting environment that students need to thrive.

“Understanding safe behavior is essential for all children.  My educational philosophy is that not only is every child capable of learning, but they are naturally driven to do so in the means most compatible with their personal abilities.  I sincerely believe that each and every child has been purposefully created to be their own special piece of the whole of humanity.  We all have to be pushed to accomplish our best sometimes, and a loving and supportive presence is the safest place to grow our comfort levels. ”
